Create a free Facebook business page, add useful business details and photos, choose a contact action and check the finished page.

A Facebook business page gives customers a place to check what you do, see recent work and contact you. You can create a page without buying advertising.

This tutorial walks through the computer setup route and the information to add before sharing your page. Facebook's labels and setup order can vary between accounts. Meta also provides a free page creation lesson.

Before you begin

Prepare your business name, a one-sentence description, website address, public contact details, opening hours, a square logo or photo and a wide cover image.

Use your own authentic Facebook account to manage the page. A page is a separate public presence for the business; creating another personal profile under the business name is not the same task. Search Facebook first to check whether the business already has a page you should recover or request access to.

Step 1 Open page creation

Sign into Facebook on a computer. Open Pages from the menu, then choose Create new Page or the equivalent creation option. You can also start from Facebook's page creation screen.

If Facebook offers several creation routes, choose a public page for the business and follow the setup prompts.

Step 2 Add the name category and description

Enter the real business name. Choose the available category that most closely describes your main work. Write a short bio explaining what you provide and where.

For example, a fictional cleaning company could use: “Residential cleaning in Strathmore and surrounding communities. Contact us to discuss regular or one-time cleaning.” Replace that example with accurate details about your own business.

Review the spelling, then create the page.

Step 3 Complete the business details

Follow the setup prompts or return to the page's editing controls. Add your website, monitored business email, phone number and relevant hours. Include a customer-facing address only when appropriate to how the business operates.

Keep the information consistent with your website. If your opening hours vary by appointment, describe that arrangement clearly rather than suggesting a staffed shop is open all day.

Step 4 Add recognizable photos

Use a logo or clear business photo for the profile image. For the cover, choose a real image of your work, premises or team that still makes sense when cropped on a phone.

Preview both before saving. Keep essential words away from image edges and avoid putting your only phone number inside the cover picture; add it to the actual contact fields too.

Step 5 Choose a useful contact action

Look for Add action button or Edit action button on the page. Choose an available action you can reliably handle, such as calling, messaging or visiting a booking page.

Enter the correct destination and save. Do not choose messaging if nobody will monitor the inbox.

Step 6 Publish a helpful first post

Introduce the business with a real photo, the service area and one clear next step. For example: “We provide fence repairs in Calgary and Strathmore. Send a photo and your location to discuss the work.” Only use that wording if it describes your service.

Review the public page on your phone. Test the website and contact destinations before inviting customers to follow it.

If something is not working

You cannot create a page: check account status and Facebook's displayed explanation. Repeatedly creating replacement accounts can make access harder to untangle.

Your business already has a page: ask the current manager for the appropriate access or follow Meta's recovery process. Preserve the existing audience where possible.

A colleague needs access: use page access controls rather than sharing your personal password. Give only the access needed for their work.

Completion checklist

Tick each item as you complete it. Your checks stay on this page until you leave or reload.
