A Google review link takes customers straight to the place where they can review your business. It saves them searching for your name and working out which listing is yours.
In this tutorial, you will copy your link, check that it opens the correct business and prepare a short message you can use after a completed job or visit. Creating the link is free.
Before you begin
You need access to the Google account that manages your Business Profile. If you have not set up your profile, start with our Google Business Profile setup guide.
Use a computer for this walkthrough. Google changes interface labels over time, so your screen may use slightly different wording.
Step 1 Find the review sharing option
Sign in to the Google account that manages your business. Search Google for your business name and location, and open its management controls.
Select Read reviews, followed by Get more reviews. This opens the review sharing options. Google's review link instructions explain the current route.
Step 2 Copy the link
Select the copy icon beside the review link. Paste it into a note labelled with your business name so you can find it again.
Keep the full link. A link to your website or a general Maps search is a different destination.
Step 3 Test the customer journey
Open the copied link in another browser or on your phone. Confirm that the business name and location are correct. Customers need to sign into a Google account to leave a review; a sign-in prompt is normal.
Stop before posting a test review of your own business. You only need to confirm the destination.
Step 4 Write a short request
Make the request easy to understand and leave the customer free to describe their own experience. Here is an example to adapt:
Thanks for choosing us for your recent project. If you would like to share your experience, you can leave a Google review here: [insert your tested review link]. Thank you for your time.
Replace the bracketed text with your actual link before sending. Personalize the opening when you can, and send the request through a channel you already use appropriately with that customer.
Step 5 Choose a repeatable moment to ask
Choose a natural point such as after a completed appointment, delivered order or finished project. Put the request into your normal follow-up checklist so it does not depend on remembering every time.
Google prohibits incentives in exchange for reviews. Do not offer discounts, gifts or payment, and do not ask only customers you expect to leave positive feedback. See Google's guidance on getting reviews.
If something is not working
The management controls are missing: confirm that you are signed into the account with access to the listing. Ask the business owner to check your access rather than creating another profile.
The link opens the wrong location: return to the correct location's management controls and copy its own review link.
A customer cannot post: ask them to check that they are signed into Google. For account or posting restrictions, use Google's help rather than repeatedly sending new links.
Completion checklist
Tick each item as you complete it. Your checks stay on this page until you leave or reload.
